What equipment is needed to trap an armadillo? - Armadillos are similar to many other small animals when it comes to trapping. In most situations, you can find success with a few simple cage traps, but just because the equipment is minimal doesn't mean the process will be easy. Unlike many other nuisance animals, armadillos don't like food they find laying on the ground. This means bait in a trap won't work; if an armadillos didn't dig it out of the ground itself, it has no interest in eating it as a meal. This means location, over bait, is what will nab you an armadillo. In most cases, installing a cage trap on or near an armadillo hole will work. First, however, you have to identify what holes are active holes in your yard and which holes are "escape" holes. "Escape" holes are shallow openings an armadillo will use to retreat into if it feels threatened. While you can trap an armadillo in one of these locations as well, identifying the main burrow is key. Remember, trapping and removing an armadillo doesn't mean you will solve your armadillo problem. As long as you have a yard that is tempting to these creatures (filled with moisture, bugs, and worms) they will continue to find a way inside. Ultimately, keeping them out for good may mean the installation of a barrier wall, one that extends into the ground.
