Where should I relocate a trapped armadillo? - When it comes to trapping, people often think the best way to deal with a captured animal is to drive it a few miles away from the property and release it back into the wild. While this may be true for some animals that aren't too low on the food chain, it is not the case for all animals. In fact, taking an animal away from its territory and placing in into a location where it has no shelter, known food sources, or identified water sources, can be worse than humanely killing the animal post-trapping. When it comes to armadillos, these critters are not super low on the food chain, but they are on the bottom half, and they can be easy prey if they seem disoriented in a new location. Remember, armadillos are burrowing creatures, if you put one into the wild without a den site, the animal will be vulnerable. If, however, you're determined to catch and release, make sure you do so in an area with plenty of cover and fast access to a water source.
